Music Review: Toby Keith 35 Greatest Hits (Disc 1)

I have to admit, although I live in Southern California and it’s practically a crime, country music is my one weakness. I love the music and the warmth and kindness that country singers give off. So, I was so happy to find out that country rockstar hottie, Toby Keith, who is currently entertaining soldiers in Iraq, is releasing his new CD — 35 Greatest Hits — on May 6th.

"Should’ve Been A Cowboy" is a great way to start his album. It’s country, but it’s not overly country, if that makes sense. People who dislike country music can’t really complain. It’s also pretty fun to dance to, which is always an important characteristic for a song. I would have made a horrible cowboy.

"He Ain’t Worth Missing" has a very nice melody, but I don’t think Toby’s voice is as good as it is in the others. Don’t get me wrong; his voice is still really good, but the song is disappointing compared to the others.

Yes, a fast song! Track 3, "A Little Less Talk and A Lot More Action" is easy to dance too. I like it; I like it a lot. Toby is really better with faster songs.

I immediately liked "Wish I Didn’t Know." I like this melody better than all the other ones. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful.

"Who’s That Man" is really, really country. This is one song that the people who can tolerant some country won’t be able to tolerant. I love it. I really, really do. People like my twin sister would throw sharp objects at me until I turned it off. Not really. That’s a hyperbole. Let’s move on.

"Upstairs Downtown" is track six. Honestly, this song is very good, but Toby Keith really sounds better with a faster beat. I know this is just my opinion, but this song is one of my least favorite due to the slow melody.

"You Ain’t Much Fun" is totally country. This is one of the most country songs on the CD. I haven’t gotten over the line: "You ain’t much since I quit drinking." Ha! Great song.

Okay, for some reason (probably because I’m just so cute when I’m confused), this track is called "I Love This Bar" on my computer, but "Big Ol’ Truck" on the CD case. Either way, it’s obvious it’s country. Who else writes songs about trucks and bars? Regardless of this awful country stereotype — which anti-country people use to lynch the country lovers of the world — this song rocks.

"Does That Blue Moon Ever Shine On You" is pretty slow, so it’s not my favorite Toby Keith song. His voice does work very well with the music. The melody definitely compliments his very powerful voice. It is very poetic in a sense. It makes me just want to melt. No wonder girls are all over him.

Aww, "A Woman’s Touch" starts off with some really romantic music. His first line, "Lately, I’ve been looking though the window’s of my soul." Aw, these lyrics are killing me. It’s all about the need for a woman’s touch. Quickly, someone send this sound file to every single high school boy.
